Editorial Standards

Purpose
At Our Adventist Life, we are committed to producing content that is trustworthy, respectful, and aligned with our faith-based mission. Our editorial standards help us maintain high quality, transparency, and integrity in everything we publish.

1. Accuracy and Truthfulness

  • We strive to present biblical teaching, life experiences, health advice, and family reflections as accurately as possible.
  • All scriptural references are checked, and we aim to reflect mainstream Seventh-day Adventist doctrine faithfully.
  • When we reference science, historical facts, or statistics, we rely on credible sources (the Bible, peer-reviewed research, reputable organizations, and recognized experts).

2. Transparency

  • If a post is sponsored, paid, or includes affiliate links, we will clearly disclose that at the beginning of the post.
  • We will note whether content has been edited, contributed by guest authors, helped by generative AI, or adapted from other sources.
  • If we discover an error in a published post, we will correct it promptly and note the change.

3. Respectful Tone

  • We write to encourage, uplift, and equip our readers. Our tone is compassionate, humble, and Christ-centered.
  • We avoid sensationalism, judgmental language, or anything that undermines dignity, whether in spiritual matters or lifestyle topics.
  • We welcome diversity of experience and recognize that followers of Christ come from different backgrounds.

4. Editorial Independence

  • Our content is guided by our mission and beliefs, not by commercial partnerships.
  • We reserve full editorial control over the topics we cover, how we cover them, and the messaging we use.
  • While we may collaborate with others, we will not compromise our theological integrity for sponsorship.

5. Privacy & Respect for Contributors

  • When we share personal stories or testimonies, we do so with the consent of those involved, or we anonymize identifying details if needed.
  • We do not publish private or confidential conversations without permission.
  • We encourage a safe, welcoming community, and we moderate comments to remove hate speech, defamation, or content that violates Christian kindness and respect.

6. Faith Alignment

  • Every piece of content supports our mission: to share Christian life, biblical truth, healthy living, and supportive Christian community.
  • We refer to and align with our Statement of Faith in our teachings and perspectives.
  • We aim to be a resource that helps readers and their families grow spiritually, physically, and relationally in a Christ-centered way.

7. Review Process

  • Posts are drafted, edited, and fact-checked. Depending on the topic, we may consult experts (such as Bible scholars, health professionals, or family-life counselors) to review content.
  • Before publication, each piece is reviewed for theological soundness, clarity, and adherence to our standards.
  • We encourage feedback from our readers — if you think something needs correction, clarification, or further discussion, please let us know.

8. Intellectual Property & Plagiarism

  • We respect copyright and always give credit when we quote or reference someone else’s work.
  • We do not present others’ writing as our own.
  • For images, we use only those we own, have licensed, generated using AI, or that are in the public domain (or covered by Creative Commons) — and we credit appropriately.

Our Editorial Process

To ensure that our content lives up to our mission and values at Our Adventist Life, we follow a clear, intentional process for every piece we publish:

  1. Ideation & Topic Planning
    • We brainstorm topics aligned with our mission (faith, family, healthy living, community).
  2. Research & Drafting
    • Writers (internal or guest) draft the post, supported by solid research.
    • We require reliable sources for statistics, health advice, historical information, and biblical teaching.
    • We clearly mark sponsored content or affiliate links.
    • If a piece draws on other works, we include proper attribution.
  3. Theological Review
    • For spiritual or doctrinal content, we perform a theological review to ensure alignment with the Bible.
    • We may consult with trusted church leaders, Bible scholars, or ministry advisors when needed.
  4. Editing & Fact-Checking
    • We edit first for structure, tone, and clarity; then for factual accuracy.
    • We verify scripture references, quotations, and claims (scientific, health, historical) before publishing.
  5. Feedback & Revision
    • Authors receive feedback and revise their drafts as needed.
    • We aim to keep a humble and collaborative spirit, allowing contributors to grow in their writing and faith.
  6. Publication
    • Once approved, content is scheduled, formatted, and published accordingly.
    • We optimize for readability and accessibility (clear headings, short paragraphs, alt text for images, etc.).
  7. Post-Publish Review & Corrections
    • After publishing, we continue to monitor feedback.
    • If someone points out an error or inaccuracy, we investigate, correct it promptly, and note the change publicly if needed.
  8. Ongoing Evaluation
    • Periodically (e.g., quarterly), we review our content performance (engagement, feedback) to refine our editorial process.
    • We also revisit our editorial standards and process to make sure they reflect our current mission, audience, and capacity.
