Everyone dies. So the saying goes, nothing is certain but death and taxes. So it is normal to fear death and want to avoid it. But is there a way to be saved from inevitable death? Many people are questioning how to be saved by Jesus. Is He the only way?
Let’s back up first though.
Why do we need saved?
The Bible says all people are sentenced to death due to sin.
The Bible says in Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Sin is defined as the breaking of God’s law (1 John 3:4). Any thought, word, or action that goes against God’s holy and perfect nature, which is expressed in the ten commandments. God can’t abide in it, because He is just and holy. As a result of sin, then humanity is separated from God and faces a judgment of death.
Who can save us from death?
It may seem hopeless though. Everyone sins!
However, God’s love for us is so great that He provided a way for us to be saved from certain death through the salvation offered by Jesus. The Bible says in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Jesus, being both fully human and fully divine, lived a perfect life, never sinning. He then willingly died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserved. The Bible says in 1 Peter 2:24, “He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.”
Saved from certain death
Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, we can receive the gift of salvation and be saved from death. The Bible says in Romans 10:9, “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
But what does all that mean? How can you have salvation and victory over your death, but also the promise of eternal life with God in heaven?
